Contour Crafting the Home of the Future

If this isn't the most revolutionary advancement in housing to come along since indoor plumbing I don't know what is. Imagine a robot "printing out" your house on site. That's exactly what Contour Crafting is promising using layered fabrication technology developed by Dr. Behrokh Khoshnevis of USC. The technology could deliver flexible design, construction in a single day, and perhaps most importantly, substantially lower costs versus conventional home building techniques. Plans are in place to build the first demonstration home using this revolutionary technology by April of this year.

Read about it and download illustration videos on the Contour Crafting site, or check out the article on Wired. You can also see some of the video clips demonstrating the technology on Inhabitat if you have any trouble downloading from the Contour Crafting site.

Is this a giant leap forward in efficient and affordable housing for all? Maybe we'll witness a revolution? I don't know, but I'll be watching with excited anticipation!
